Our comprehensive guide provides detailed instructions to ensure you apply TKTX Cream correctly and experience optimal pain relief during procedures.

STEP 1 - Patch Test First

The day before, put a small amount on the area you are about to have worked on. Leave it 10–20 minutes. A bit of redness is normal. Stop if it stings badly, swells, or blisters. Do not use it on broken skin, and do not use it if you have reacted to anaesthetic cream before. Pregnant? Check with your artist or a doctor first.

Step 2 - Prep the skin

Shave the area if it needs it. Wash with warm to hot water and a mild exfoliating wash, or give it a light scrub, so the dead skin is off and the pores are open. Rinse, then dry it fully. Do not scrape it. Do not leave it damp. Cream works on clean, dry, intact skin. A warm shower beforehand does the same job if you have not got a scrub.

Step 3 - Lay the cream on

One 10g tube does a palm-sized patch, about 10 cm by 15 cm. Put on a thick layer, about 2–3 mm. You should not see skin through it. Do not rub it in like a moisturizer. Rubbing it in is why people say it did nothing.

Step 4 - Wrap it and wait

Cover it with cling film, sealed, not tight. Leave it on for your cream's full time: Gold Triple Action 120 to 150 minutes (2 to 2½ hours). Max Strength Gold, Platinum Black, Artist Series Black and Rambo 90 to 120 minutes. Blue, Yellow and Green 60 to 90 minutes. CS Lab 30 to 60 minutes. Removing the cream early can shorten how long it works, and in some cases it may not activate at all. Keep the cream on thick and wrapped for the full suggested time. Wipe it all off before the artist starts. You should feel pressure and the machine, not the sharp sting. Elbows, ribs, feet and bony spots will always talk more than a fleshy spot. On a long piece, peel the film back in sections so the rest stays covered.

Step 5 -  Mid-session spray, foam and gel

Cream is for before the skin is open. Once the artist is working, switch. Apply a decent coat, then leave it on for 1–5 minutes, depending on how raw the skin is and how strong you want the top-up. Wipe off and keep going. Reapply when the sting comes back. Each hit lasts about an hour. Spray for a quick top-up, foam if you want it cooler, gel if the skin is inflaming. Do not use cream on open skin.

Step 6 - Wash, film and balm

When you get home, wash the tattoo with antibacterial foam, then pat it dry. If you have tattoo film, apply it and leave it on for 1–2 days to help it heal. Take the film off, wash again, and switch to a thin layer of balm. No film? Wash with the foam, pat dry, and use the balm from the start. Do not drown it, and follow your artist if their aftercare differs.

If you want it to kick in faster

A warm shower before you apply it is enough. If the wrap is already on, lay a warm towel over it for 5–10 minutes. Warm, not hot. If you cannot hold the towel on your wrist, it is too hot. Do not use a heat pack straight on the skin.
